PCMS sixth graders hear environmental presentations

Jennifer Rowe with the North Carolina Wildlife Commission shows PCMS 6th grader Brennan Worthington the difference between a grizzly bear skull and a North Carolina black bear skull.

Sixth graders from Polk County Middle School visited the 4-H Center in Columbus on Sept. 39 and Sept. 30 to hear presentations by local agencies that affect the environment.

Sixth graders were able to travel to classes given by the Pacolet Area Conservatory, the North Carolina Forest Service, the North Carolina Wildlife Commission and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. Each session was hands on and gave students an opportunity to learn about rivers, streams, watersheds, forests, animals and air quality in Polk County and what they can be doing to help.

This field trip is sponsored by the Polk County 4-H Center.
