Animal teeth helping teach PCMS students

Polk County Middle School students have been busy learning about types of consumers (herbivores, omnivores, carnivores) by studying the teeth structures of skulls that represent these three groups.

Students examined the teeth of a cow, deer and manatee to determine that these consumers have large flat teeth for grinding plant material. Students also looked at the sharp teeth of a coyote, bobcat and alligator to determine these consumers are carnivores and examined a black bear skull to find both sharp and flat teeth, representing omnivores.
