Once again, Polk Central Elementary’s Battle of the Books team is the best in Polk County.

Polk Central’s contingent defeated teams from the county’s three other elementary schools during the district Battle of the Books competition, held March 25 at Polk County Middle School.

Polk Central’s team – Aslyn Scruggs, Emmalyn Rathbone, Andres Sanchez, Blake Morris, Thaxter Hlavac, Isaiah Wilmoth and coaches Sherrie Ford and Brooke Benfield – earned a spot in the Region 8 tournament, to be held in Waynesville on April 25.

Fourth- and fifth-grade students from all four Polk County elementary schools tested their knowledge throughout the six rounds of competition, during which students answered questions about 15 different books.

Staff from Polk County Public Library and Polk County Schools district office served as officials for the event.
