Polk Central Elementary students and staff collected almost 1,400 food items during their recent Hunger Awareness Food Drive.

Classes competed to see which one in each grade could bring in the most items, and students helped physical education teacher Kenny Hall sort, count and build a food pyramid.. This year’s donations doubled items collected in last year’s drive and far surpassed the school’s goal for this year of 700 items.

All items collected were donated to the food pantry at Thermal Belt Outreach Ministries to help support families in need in Polk County.
