Saluda first graders learn more about Christmas trees, holiday in Appalachia

Students in Ellen Rogers’ first grade at Saluda Elementary spent part of December studying the history of the Christmas tree and the history of Christmas in Appalachia.

As part of the unit, they made their own cranberry garland, counting out the cranberries before stringing them up.

The class also decorated a community Christmas tree as it would have been 100 years ago with cranberry garland, ribbons and tin foil.
