The idea of writing the song “I Am Self Quarantined” came to me in the car while we were going to my mom’s work.
The tune for Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” became stuck in my head after thinking about COVID-19. I don’t know why but it did.
It started off with the chorus as we were pulling into the parking lot. I have been singing though since I was 5 at church, and writing songs since I was 10.
“I am self-quarantined
Stop the spread of COVID-19
I can’t see my best friend,
Don’t kiss your boyfriend
It feels so wrong
Keep locked in tight
Better not go out tonight
I am self-quarantined
COVID-19”
As I got out of the car and went inside, I sat at the desk I have there, pulled out a piece of paper and wrote the song while listening to the tune. I realized that it was coming together quickly and as soon as my mom got out of the meeting, I showed her and decided I was going to perform it and put it on social media.
As for how Eddie Foxx heard about it, I have no idea, but he did email me and I see it as a blessing that he did so.
Eddie Foxx has a morning show from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on 99.9 Kiss Country (WKSF-FM), which I listen to every morning when I wake up. I received an email from him (recently) telling me to send in the song as he would love to hear it.
