Polk County Early College has earned a spot among the final five North Carolina high schools in the 2019 Biogen Foundation’s Spark Video Contest.
Schools in Massachusetts and North Carolina were asked to create videos ranging in length from 30 seconds to three minutes on the on the topic of biotechnology in your life. A group of judges reviewed all submissions and selected five finalists in each state.
Those finalists will now be voted on by the public, who will vote on their favorite videos during a one-month period. The winning video will receive $10,000 for their schools and three GoPro video cameras for the students who created and starred in the winning videos. Additionally, during the first week of April, Biogen employees will vote on a second video from each category to also receive a grand prize of $10,000!
Voting will be held throughout March at https://spark.biogenfoundation.com/. Individuals can vote for one video per category once per day.
As a finalist, Polk County Early College has already earned $1,000.
The goal of the Biogen Foundation is to provide access to science through hands-on science learning, teacher development opportunities and college readiness and support. It is crucial to invest in science education to ensure we have the future innovators needed to tackle the challenging issues of tomorrow.
