Throughout the school year, Saluda Elementary families are provided opportunities to partner with the school on activities to ensure students become their absolute best.
In November, as part of the school’s Title 1 Family Engagement, all Saluda School students selected a free book to take home and read with their families.
Reading tips, differentiated by grade-level reading strategies, and a book recommendation form were resources sent home with the books.
Families were tasked with using the resources to support reading comprehension by asking their child questions about the book. This helped support reading fluency and modeled reading and thinking strategies.
If students completed and turned in the book recommendation form, they were entered into a drawing to win a cozy reading chair to take home and enjoy.
Saluda Elementary Media Specialist Kevin Burnett has been sharing the student book recommendations with all students to generate interest in the books he has on hand in the library.
