Seven Polk County High School Band students have received a $2600 scholarship to a three-week music camp at Appalachian State University.

Cannon Music Camp is one of the most prestigious music camps in Western North Carolina. Each student will participate in ensembles and private lessons and also perform concerts every week of the camp.

To be selected to attend, students had to make an audition video and send it to Laurel Lake Music Society, which then sent the videos on to the music faculty at App State. Faculty members watch the videos and place them in order of best to last based on playing of their instruments. The top students are selected to receive the scholarships and attend the camp.

Polk County students selected to receive a scholarship and attend the camp are Zetta Anderson, Kristopher Brooks, Aden Kimbrell, Laura Packer, Ryan Rogerson and Elizalee Suber. One other student was chosen but was unable to attend.
