Polk County High School’s Chinese program earned an Excellent Organization award during the 9th Annual Chinese Language Speech and Writing Contests held April 28 at North Carolina State University.
More than 700 students, representing 64 schools and 14 counties, took part in competition in Hunt Library on the NCSU campus.
Polk County High was one of six schools across the state to receive and Excellent Organization award in speech.
Fifty students were chosen for the final speech competition. The competing students were divided into Immersion and Non-Immersion categories to best assess their language abilities, as Chinese dual immersion programs are increasing in North Carolina.
PCHS Chinese 2 student Chase Scarlett was chosen for the speech competition in the Non-Immersion Intermediate Level, but was unable to attend due to a previous commitment.
