The latest exploration for the Nature Navigators, Polk County Middle School’s hiking club, came at Laura Baird’s private property in Sunny View.
The intrepid hikers got wet and wild investigating a creek. They caught an amphibian, a salamander and many invertebrates such as a crawdad and lots of snails. They also got to meet some fantastic vertebrates!
Baird’s three cats and dog hiked with students to the creek. Students also met a pet corn snake, chicken and turkey. One hiker had one of his dreams come true as he finally got to hug a turkey.
