Polk Central fifth graders enjoyed some sun and great views on their recent Muddy Sneakers learning expedition to Chimney Rock State Park.
Students in Andrea Walter’s class studied the transfer of heat by drinking pine needle tea, warming up rocks, hiking steep trails and insulating a “nest.”
Rumbling Bald Access at Chimney Rock State Park had well-maintained trails, views of stunning rock faces and staged a spring flower extravaganza show for the students – redbud, spicebush, red maple, trillium, star chickweed, bloodroot, purple phacelia, and cutleaf toothwort were all in bloom.
The students were grateful for the opportunity for outdoor learning.
