Second grade students from Polk Central Elementary have been learning about Pilgrims and Native Americans.
Students got to make butter using cream and salt. They each took a turn vigorously shaking the jar until the cream solidified into butter. Then, students got to try their homemade butter on a cracker.
Students also learned how Native Americans dyed various materials using plant dyes and learned how Native Americans made jewelry with shells and homemade beads.
After learning about the colors that can be made from different plants, students got to make their own necklaces with dyed pasta.
