Polk Central Elementary will hold a pair of events on April 4, one for incoming kindergarten students and another to help benefit the community.
Polk Central will hold kindergarten registration for the 2023-24 school year on April 4. Children who will be five years old before August 31, 2023 and live in the Polk Central area are eligible to attend kindergarten beginning in August.
A parent or legal guardian can register a child during the event that will run from 6-7:30 p.m. Families are asked to bring the following documents to registration, but can also attend and provide document before school begins in August:
- Child’s birth certificate
- Proof of residency (utility bill, Polk County tax notice, rental agreement, purchase of house agreement)
- Immunization record
A kindergarten health form will be provided at registration, and those must be completed at a doctor’s office or health department.
The school will also hold a canned food drive and silent auction on April 4 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Canned food can be brought and placed in front of the library or in the 3-5 hallway beneath the bulletin boards. Donations such as canned spaghetti, green beans, corn, soups and so forth will be accepted and donated to local community organizations.
The silent auction will include grade-level canvasses that feature a rocket, the school’s mascot, designed by art teacher Michael Darpino with each student’s fingerprint from that grade. The cavasses will also include each grade level’s graduation year.
For more information on either event, please call the school office at 828-894-8233.
