That wasn’t the typical holiday parade traveling the halls at Polk Central Elementary School.
Students in J.J. Waddell’s third grade class at Polk Central have been discovering the world of coding using Lego FIRST design kits. As a culminating event, students designed parade floats that had to be coded to meet certain parameters. Students were challenged to design a vehicle to carry the load of the float, travel a certain speed and distance and make a sound.
The class members presented their parade floats to the first grade students at Polk Central. Many parents, teachers and other interested students also enjoyed the presentation.
The third graders worked up until the last seconds “troubleshooting” coding issues and other Lego mishaps, persevering through the issues and creating a wonderful parade for many kids to enjoy.
