Third grade students at Polk Central Elementary have been taking part in a wide range of activities while studying body systems.
Working with Helen Blackwell, Polk County extension agent with North Carolina Cooperative Extension, students studied the skeletal system. As part of the lesson, students learned about healthy foods and lifestyle choices to help “build bones.”
As bone builders, students made banks to put “coins” in each time they complete a bone-building activity such as exercising or eating healthy foods.
To conclude the lesson, students enjoyed freshly made smoothies!
