Polk County Schools students will return to class a day early from Christmas vacation as part of the district’s plan to make up days missed so far this year due to inclement weather.
The Polk County Board of Education approved calendar changes on Monday during the board’s December meeting, held at Polk County High School.
All Polk County schools have been closed for weather-related reasons for five days thus far this semester. The board approved changes on Monday to make up those missed days. Among those:
- Students will now return to school on Wednesday, January 2
- Students will also be in class on January 18, February 18, March 4 and April 22
- The fall semester will now end Friday, January 18
- Polk County Early College will now begin its holiday break on Friday, December 21
Revised calendars can be found at http://calendar.polkschools.org.
The Board of Education also noted that parents should be aware that the district has used all of its available makeup days for the school year. Any additional closings for weather could mean either the use of days currently planned for spring break as class days or the extension of the school year beyond the current end date of June 7, 2019.
