Students in Leslie Rhinehart’s Chemistry I Honors class at Polk County High School recently worked in small “expert” groups to research and become experts on periodic table groups and families.
The students constructed presentation posters. After working in small “expert” groups, they re-grouped into larger “teaching” groups. They rotated around the posters to teach each other about the eight main group elements.
This “jigsaw” exercise helps students learn to take ownership in their own learning and teaches them how to collect and order information on a poster for presentation.
