Students in Jeff Micchelli’s classroom at Polk County High School decided to do something different this year for a fundraiser – sell heirloom pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving.
Class members began the process by roasting eight different varieties of pumpkins. They then froze the puree and pulp.
Three weeks later, students shopped for all the other ingredients. Finally, the students mixed the ingredients and made pumpkin pies.
The class sold 25 pies to teachers and staff throughout Polk County Schools. Students delivered the pies directly to the schools in the days before Thanksgiving break.
