The American Association of School Librarians designates April as School Library Month, a celebration of school librarians and their programs. The North Carolina State Board of Education has also been instrumental in advocating School Library Month in the state.
To celebrate the month at Polk County Middle School, homerooms were shown a public service announcement from author Jason Reynolds, who has a book on the state Battle of the Books list for next year.
Students were also invited to write a book review of a work they had recently read. In return, student names were entered into a drawing for a paperback book and bookmark of choice, a pencil and an eraser. The winner was sixth grader Sarah Gray.
