Eighth graders from Polk County Middle School recently began the first steps on their journey to high school by visiting Polk County High School and the Polk County Early College campuses.
This visit is a yearly “rite of passage” for middle school students to help them better navigate the campus and their academic paths for the next four years. The tour is the first of many steps to help the rising freshmen make careful choices.
PCHS Principal Dr. Brandon Schweitzer and Mr. Billy Transou from PCHS Student Services welcomed students and set the tone for students by emphasizing the importance of making the right choices, keeping up with their academics and having good attendance.
In the coming weeks, students will begin formally registering for classes for the 2021-2022 school year. Teachers and Student Counselors at Polk County Middle School emphasize the importance of preparing for high school in eighth grade as part of their everyday structure.
“Eighth grade is a critical transition for students,” said Polk County Middle School social studies teacher Eric Eaton. “They are beginning to consider career and post-high school plans. We are here to help give them the best foundation for a successful start in ninth grade.”
Students and parents can access more information about ninth grade registration through the PCHS website.
