Polk County Middle School and the Polk County Public Library recently collaborated on a project for students around the Charles Dickens classic book, A Christmas Carol.
With students in Jeanne Ferran’s seventh grade Accelerated English Language Arts classes reading the Dickens holiday work, PCMS Media Coordinator Laura Smith approached Jen Pace Dickenson, Youth Services Librarian at PCPL, and Amelia Hill, Program and Volunteer Coordinator, with the idea of creating an activity to complement the students’ study of the novel.
Dickenson and Hill created a Victorian-inspired activity that the students could enjoy, especially since it came after exams and provided students with a fun way to relax.
In the activity, which took place in Ferran’s classroom, students made various Victorian paper ornaments, rotating through four different stations and creating ornaments at each.
