Polk County Middle School and its school counselors recently held College and Career Week.
During the week, students participated in a variety of activities and were given special announcements focusing on college and career readiness, with an emphasis on the Portrait of a Graduate from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Among the activities:
- Students and staff wore college T-shirts to kick off the week off
- Students were encouraged to visit a selfie station at lunch to tell what they wanted to be when they grew up. Photos were taken for the school yearbook.
- Students had lessons in classes and took a career interest survey, learning about the top three careers they might be interested in based on their personal interests.
- Eighth graders participated in a College and Career Day event in the gym. More than 30 presenters from local businesses or colleges came to educate students. Presenters had many hands-on and interactive stations for students to participate in. Students were able to walk around and ask questions about colleges or careers in which they were interested.
