Sixth graders in Donna Hall’s English Language Arts class at Polk County Middle School have been focusing recent studies around the theme “Not All Heroes Wear Super Powers.”
Students have been exploring the masks people wear in different contexts (historical, social, emotional). In connecting literature and life experiences, students created images of a mask they wear for the world to see. They also created an original poem that gave a look at the real person underneath the mask.
To help create the masks, students spent time in the PCMS Media Center. Laura Smith, PCMS Media Coordinator, provided makerspace materials for students to use to create their masks.
Smith was a recipient of the Bright Ideas Grant from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation to help purchase the materials for the project.
