Polk students explore Harmon Field ecosystems through AIG Summer Seminar

A group of Polk County students spent the final days of summer vacation learning more about the ecosystems in their community.

Participants in the Access to Nature AIG Summer Seminar at Harmon Field had the opportunity to dive into nature with Polk County Middle School science teachers Elisa Flynn and Stephanie Luedi. Each day, campers took part in hands-on learning activities that engaged them in the world around them.

Harmon Field was broken down into zones: Riparian Zone, Cold Water Aquatic and Woodlands. Groups were tasked with creating product posters that were left at Harmon Field so that others could read about some of the organisms that lived in the zone.

Students looked at food chains within the zone, plant and animal life and also learned about invasive species that were present.

Students greatly enjoyed this experience, which was funded by a Polk County Community Foundation grant.
