Polk County students engage in TED-style talks as part of summer seminar

A group of Polk County students recently spent a week learning how to be better public speakers and how to improve their presentations by creating their own TED-style talks.

The week-long session was part of the AIG Summer Seminars, generously supported by the Polk County Community Foundation.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) talks are short presentations given worldwide and available to the public on their website. Known as “Ideas worth Spreading,” these talks provide excellent models of professional and entertaining public speaking.

During the week-long event at Polk County Middle School, students watched a wide variety of TED talks, discussed what made them interesting and put into practice the skills great presenters use.

The group of rising 7th through 11th graders used their personal experiences and passions to create talks with ideas worth spreading. They created Google slideshows to enhance their talks and presented on the last day of the event.
