Pumpkins are not just great for carving or making pies – they can be used to help learn math!
Students in Megan McDaniel’s second grade class at Polk Central Elementary recently spent a day doing all things math with their pumpkin. They estimated the number of seeds in one scoop, the number of seeds in the whole pumpkin, counted to find the actual number of seeds and used nonstandard units of measurement to measure the height and width of their pumpkin.
Students then voted to carve a cat into the pumpkin.
