Saluda Elementary School student Gabe Mills carefully loads a paper structure during a recent STEM challenge in the school media center.
The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) challenge was to build a structure to support discarded reference books from only a 6-by-9 inch piece of tagboard and six inches of masking tape.
Mills and partner Thomas Varnadore made a structure that held 52 reference books before failing in dramatic fashion.
