Students in Ginger Rackley’s fifth grade class at Saluda Elementary School are creating beautiful works of art and learning more about math at the same time.
Using materials received through a Bright Ideas Grant from Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation, Rackley’s students have been producing “Math Masterpieces” through lessons integrating math and art.
As part of their work, students created balanced equation sculptures and a fraction sock art piece. The class also received other materials such as large dice, which they use when practicing multiplication and division in fractions.
