First and second grade students at Saluda Elementary School recently took a field trip to Holmes Educational State Forest, a 235-acre state forest located near Hendersonville.
Students walked on the half-mile Talking Tree Trail to learn about different types of trees, understand the importance of trees and learn how to tell how old a tree is.
Students also learned about Smokey the Bear and were able to view some of the equipment used by park rangers such as a helicopter and lookout tower.
