North Carolina Department of Transportation engineers Cameron Cochran and Shep Cordray spoke in mid-September to sixth grade students at Polk County Middle School about the road and bridge construction projects taking place in the county in association with the World Equestrian Games.
The two engineers talked about the types of bridges built and other factors involved in bridge design and construction, the construction process and the myriad of people and skills needed to build a bridge or roadway, how they became an engineer and their experiences with bridge and road construction.
It was a very informative and interesting discussion that will help students complete the project-based learning assignment on straw bridges.
