The best high school and middle school model bridge builders in North Carolina all hail from Polk County.
Polk County Early College and Polk County Middle School each captured top honors Friday at the North Carolina Department of Transportation 2018 Model Bridge Building Competition in Raleigh.
The win is the second straight for Polk County Early College, with Polk County Middle winning the competition for the third time, but first since 2015.
In the event, each school is judged in four categories, including a written report, oral presentation, design drawing of their bridge and load testing.
Also competing Friday in the high school division were Camden Early College, North Moore High School and Franklin Academy. Also participating in the middle school division were West Pine Middle School, Clarkton School of Discovery and North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network-Pre College.
