Sunny View Elementary School recently conducted a canned food drive — with a twist!
As a school, students collected 221 canned food items. Some third grade students then created structures from the cans, inspired by the book Canstruction Creations. The book is about a contest where volunteers build structures out of canned food items which are donated by companies and other individuals. When the contest is over, all the canned food items are donated back to the community for needy families.
The canned food items collected by Sunny View students were donated to Thermal Belt Outreach Ministries.
This experience served as an important – and fun – way to teach students to give back to the community.
