North Carolina Superintendent Mark Johnson will honor Tryon Elementary and other public schools in nine districts and four charter schools that earned the 2019-20 Purple Star Award during a ceremony on Friday that will be broadcast live via the Internet.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and can be viewed on the N.C. Department of Public Instruction Public Meetings YouTube channel – https://bit.ly/3acxWlh.

This is the first year for the Purple Star Award, which celebrates the state’s strong military presence and its support for military families. The Purple Star Award honors North Carolina schools such as Tryon Elementary that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families.
