Members of the Polk County Board of Education learned a few new things at their most recent meeting thanks to a group of local fifth graders.

Students in Donna Godley’s class at Tryon Elementary visited Stearns Education Center for a presentation during the board’s May meeting, bringing material from the classroom to the board room.

The presentation grew from a class assignment. Students were given a body system and tasked to not only learn about it, but to create instructional materials about that system and then share and discuss those with their classmates.

Students brought those same insightful lessons to the board meeting, talking about the muscular system, skeletal system, digestive system, nervous system and much more.

As the presentation concluded, board members could be heard commenting about how much they learned and how well the students presented their materials.
