Polk County Middle School STEM teacher Leslie Rhinehart was honored Saturday at a North Carolina Science, Mathematics and Technology Education Center celebration in Cary.
The SMT Center held its annual Celebration of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education at Embassy Suites in Cary. The event recognizes and honors students and educators for STEM achievements and contributions to education across the state.
Rhinehart was honored as a recipient of the Burroughs Welllcome Fund Career Award for Science Teachers (CAST). The award recognizes outstanding STEM teachers in North Carolina public primary and secondary schools and provides $175,000 over five years for resources such as equipment and professional development.
Alfred Mays, BWF’s Chief Diversity Officer and Strategist in Diversity and Education, recognized Rhinehart and other CAST winners and also unveiled a video filmed at Polk County Middle during the in-class presentation of Rhinehart’s award.
